I recognized Leila’s white scarf from earlier that day at the bakery. Her gorgeous eyes were hidden by strands of hair that also served to adorn her face. Under the white scarf, I noticed that she had braided her hair on both sides of her shoulders. Leila was like an angel who stretched her wings and carried me away to a fantastical realm. As she drew nearer, my sight blurred and I became an innate dunce who could only gaze.
But I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of her name until that moment. Leila was the most exquisite name a girl could have. Perhaps this name, in teaching us to love and in allowing us to experience the joy of falling in love, is responsible for shaping human nature. This elevated us beyond the realm of animals and endowed us with the mortality necessary to seek and find the truth in the other person. To disregard our desires and consider others.
